At WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled visionOS 2, which is the first system update for the Vision Pro headset.

The first improvement is in spatial photos, which have become even more expressive due to the greater depth of the image. The developers promise new ways to interact with the most important memories.

Users will be able to animate all the old static shots from their library and share entire albums – with someone who also has a headset.

Spatial video was also shown, which will be easier to create with the new cameras and edit in Final Cut Pro, and then publish to the new Vimeo app on Apple Vision Pro.

During the WWDC 2024 presentation, Apple revealed the new features of AirPods Pro. Now users of the headphones will be able to perform various actions simply by shaking their heads. For example, it will be possible to reset a call on the iPhone or interact with Siri.

The company also talked about new Voice Isolation algorithms that allow you to remove background noise around you to better hear your conversation partner in headset mode.

The list of innovations started with physical activity tracking. After the update, the watch will be able to assess how much you’ve been working out. This will allow you to understand when you’re a little under- or overdoing it and risk injury if you don’t slow down.

In the Health app on iPhone, you can now set a goal of different activity goals for different days of the week. There’s also now paused progress: ring counting can be paused if you’re sick, have given your watch in for repair, or just want to take a little rest. While tracking is paused, you won’t lose combo days with workouts.

The new Vitals app is designed to track the complex state of the body and alert you if several indicators have changed at once, which may indicate illness or other changes.

Apple has officially unveiled iPadOS 18 for its branded tablets. This system includes updates to the home screen with customisable icons and an improved control centre like iOS 18, as well as a redesigned photo app and a number of other upgrades.

Apple has emphasised the new floating tab bar, which allows you to navigate to different parts of the app. This area can be transformed into a sidebar so that everything you need is always at your fingertips.

After 14 years, the iPad will have a system calculator. It looks like its iOS counterpart, but functionally it’s much more powerful due to Apple Pencil support. This means you can write down maths examples and the app will solve them thanks to a feature Apple calls Math Notes.

As part of the iOS 18 announcement at WWDC 2024, Apple announced that its Messages app will get the long-awaited RCS support. This standard will replace SMS as the default communication protocol between Android and iOS devices.

There’s at least one example of what RCS will look like on the iPhone on Apple’s upcoming website page. There will be a mention of ‘RCS’ in the text box indicating a connection, but otherwise everything is standard.

RCS, or Rich Communication Services, was developed as a replacement for SMS. This standard features text input indicators and read notifications – just like in conventional messengers. In addition, RCS allows you to send longer messages and supports high quality images and video.
