Apple is introducing RCS messaging on the iPhone in iOS 18. It’s a replacement for SMS

Over the past five years, RCS has become the standard messaging protocol on Android phones in the US, but Apple has steadfastly refused to support it. Now, starting with iOS 18, some iMessage-like features will finally be available in cross-platform chats.
